Trap Club: What Should I Know?

What Do We Do?

  • Provide youth the opportunity to participate in a sport they can compete in and enjoy for a lifetime.
  • Introduce youth to proper gun safety by teaching 4-H range safety rules.
  • Provide youth the opportunities to build confidence and courage.
  • Attend shooting sports competitions on both county and state levels.

What Will I Need?

All participants must have eye and ear protection. Shotgun ownership is not required, but it is encouraged. We would like for members to have a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun and shells. A limited amount of firearms and shells will be available for individuals who do not own a firearm.

Time Commitment?

The club practices every Monday at 5:00 p.m. at the Grayson County Ag Park Trap Range. Members can choose to participate in the State 4-H Shooting Sports competition or shooting competitions in surrounding counties, depending on member interest. All competitions will have specific time requirements. Club members will be required to participate in occasional club fundraisers to help raise money to pay for targets and range upkeep.

What Should Parents Know?

  • No experience is necessary.
  • Club membership is free.
  • We provide all targets and facilities.
  • For safety, there is always a certified coach on the range during practices.
