Archery: What Should I Know?

What Do We Do?

  • Provide youth the opportunity to participate in a sport they can compete in and enjoy for a lifetime.
  • Introduce youth to proper bow safety by teaching 4-H range safety rules.
  • Provide youth the opportunities to build confidence and courage.
  • Attend shooting sports competitions on both county and state levels.

What Will I Need?

Bow ownership is not required. The club provides targets, basic compound bows, arrows, and necessary safety equipment for use at time of practices. We encourage youth to have their own bow set for their size and strength to improve success and accuracy, but it is not required.

Time Commitment?

The club usually practices every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Grayson County Ag Park Barn. The club usually meets rain or shine for about an hour. Members can choose to participate in the State 4-H Shooting Sports competition or shooting competitions in surrounding counties, depending on member interest. All competitions will have specific time requirements.

What Should Parents Know?

  • No experience is necessary.
  • Club membership is free.
  • Club leaders can assist with setting up archery equipment.
  • For safety, there is always a certified coach on the range during practices.
